Harris states that anyone who breaks into her home will be met with deadly force.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her readiness to use her firearm if an intruder were to enter her home, jokingly stating, "If somebody breaks into my house, they're getting shot," during a livestreamed event in Michigan with Oprah Winfrey. After eliciting laughter, she added, "I probably shouldn't have said that, but my staff will deal with that later."

Harris, who reaffirmed her status as a gun owner during a recent presidential debate, emphasized her support for banning assault weapons, describing them as "literally designed to be a tool of war" with no place in a civil society. When Winfrey asked if she had been a gun owner for a while, Harris confirmed it and reiterated her support for the Second Amendment while arguing for stricter gun control laws, particularly in light of the ongoing issue of school shootings.

Describing it as "bone-chilling" for children to practice for such incidents, she stated, "It doesn't have to be this way." Her comments come amidst heightened scrutiny following a recent mass shooting in Georgia where a 14-year-old was charged with killing four people at a high school.

During the event, which attracted around 300,000 viewers and featured appearances by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Harris addressed various topics including immigration and the economy. Her gun ownership, publicly acknowledged since 2019, gained renewed attention after the recent presidential debate where she refuted Trump's claims that she would "confiscate everybody's gun" if elected.

Harris's opponents have criticized her for perceived shifts in her stance on gun control as she prepares for her upcoming showdown with Trump. Notably, she no longer supports a buyback program for assault weapons but remains committed to passing tighter laws, including universal background checks and red-flag laws, which allow for the confiscation of firearms from individuals deemed a risk to themselves or others.
