Many passengers are feared dead in a tragic accident that occurred in Suhum.

Several passengers are feared dead following a devastating accident at Obretima in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region early on September 20.

Emergency crews from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) worked for hours to rescue those trapped in the wreckage. The incident involved a VIP bus and a diesel fuel tanker. Preliminary investigations suggest that a tire on the tanker, which was traveling from Accra to Kumasi, burst, causing it to veer into the oncoming lane of the VIP bus, which was headed from Tamale to Accra. The collision resulted in severe damage to the central section of the bus, trapping numerous passengers inside.

Rescue operations were carried out in coordination with the Fire Service, police, and ambulance teams. Those suffering from life-threatening injuries were rushed to Suhum Government Hospital for urgent medical care.

As of now, official casualty figures have not been released by the hospital or local police authorities.
