Presbyterian Church Takes a Stand Against Galamsey Activities

The Awoshie branch of the Presbyterian Church has joined the fight against irresponsible and illegal mining practices that are causing significant environmental damage. The church expresses deep concern about the existential threats these activities pose to the nation and is urging the government to take immediate action.

Under the theme “40 Years with a Faithful God,” the church reflected on its journey and prayed for continued guidance. In an interview with Metro News, Reverend Beatrice Ansah Kwakye emphasized the church's worry about the extensive degradation of water bodies, deforestation, and air pollution caused by illegal miners, commonly referred to as galamsey.

"When something goes wrong, it affects us all," she stated. "We plead with illegal miners to stop their activities, as the destruction of our water bodies is leading to numerous health issues for the country's residents. We need to keep our water sources clean."

Highlighting the significant health risks associated with illegal mining, the Reverend called for urgent action from the state and urged illegal miners to voluntarily cease their operations to protect the environment.

Additionally, she encouraged political leaders and all Ghanaians to work together to ensure a peaceful electoral process this year.
