Samsung is reportedly developing a 12.4-inch rollable smartphone set to launch in 2025.

Samsung is shifting its focus to rollable displays, reportedly developing a smartphone with a tablet-sized 12.4-inch screen set to launch in the second half of 2025. According to The Elec, this innovative device will feature a flexible display that unrolls, rivaling the size of some Android tablets.

This rollable phone would surpass the recently unveiled Huawei Mate Xs 2, which has a 10.2-inch display. This transition signals Samsung's move from foldable to rollable technology, offering a more seamless and expansive viewing experience.

The report also highlights that the device will include an under-display camera (UDC), eliminating the need for a camera cutout and ensuring an uninterrupted display. This combination of a large rollable screen and UDC technology is likely to come with a premium price tag.

 Samsung's Foldable Display Legacy

Samsung has been a pioneer in foldable technology since launching the Galaxy Fold in 2019. Since then, it has introduced several foldable models and prototypes with various mechanisms, including double-folding and Z-shaped designs. However, the company recently lost the race to launch the world's first triple-folding smartphone to Huawei, whose Mate X3 features a commercially available tri-fold display while Samsung's prototypes remain in development.

 The Shift to Rollable Technology

As detailed in the report, Samsung is prioritizing rollable phone technology, with more information expected as development continues.
