University for Development Studies Delays Reopening Date.

This decision has been made in light of the ongoing industrial actions involving multiple unions.

The Management of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has declared a significant update regarding the commencement of the 2024/2025 Academic Year.

In a press release obtained by MyNewsGH, UDS announced that the reopening date, which was initially scheduled for September 27, 2024, has been postponed indefinitely.

This measure is a reaction to the current industrial actions involving various unions, such as the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), the Senior Staff Association – Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trade Union Congress (TEWU-TUC).

These unions have been participating in strikes that have affected the delivery of academic services across public universities in Ghana.

In a letter,it stated:

“The Management of the University for Development Studies (UDS) wishes to inform all Fresh and Continuing students and the general public that the reopening date for the 2024/2025 Academic Year, which was slated for September 27, 2024, has been postponed indefinitely.

“This is due to the ongoing industrial action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), the Senior Staff Association – Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trade Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) of Public Universities, which has affected academic service delivery in the University.

“All students and the general public will be informed about subsequent arrangements once the industrial action has been called off.

“Management sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused by this decision. Thank you.”
