13 People Killed in Tragic Accident on the Kumasi-Obuasi Highway.

A devastating accident occurred early this morning, Monday, October 14, 2024, when a VIP bus traveling from Kumasi to Enchi in the Western North Region veered off the road and fell into a ditch near Kwapia, close to Obuasi.

Police reports confirm that thirteen individuals lost their lives in the incident, including seven men, five women, and one child, all passengers on the bus.

According to reports, all but one of the deceased died instantly at the scene. The driver, identified as Osei Adu, was taken to the hospital for treatment but unfortunately passed away shortly after arrival. The local community is in shock as families mourn their loved ones.

Eyewitnesses indicate that the bus, with the registration number ER 2445-11, was overloaded after picking up several stranded passengers from another bus that had broken down along the route. It is believed that a dispute among some aggrieved passengers regarding the bus's overcapacity may have distracted the driver, leading to the tragic accident.

In the aftermath of the incident, those injured are receiving medical care, and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the morgue as authorities work to gather more information and provide support to the affected families.
