Barker-Vormawor writes from jail.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a key figure in the Democracy Hub, has spoken out about the difficult conditions he is facing in jail. Currently detained for his role in anti-galamsey protests, Barker-Vormawor took to social media on Saturday, October 5, 2024, to dispel rumors regarding a secret release and revealed that they have been without water for three days, highlighting the harsh treatment they are enduring.

Writing to you from a jail cell, where we haven’t had water for three days, I want to assure you of my unwavering commitment to this cause. This claim about my release is false and intended to undermine our resolve through mistrust. See through it.

 he stated.

Despite these challenging circumstances, Barker-Vormawor reaffirmed his dedication to combating what he sees as the decline of the nation.

I will continue to lead from the front, unlike our cowardly ‘leaders’ who hang back. I am willing to endure even greater punishment than others. When one cheek is struck, I will turn the other, trusting that future generations will judge us more fairly. Tomorrow will redeem us and validate our sacrifices.

he declared.

Barker-Vormawor, along with other protesters, was detained following the #StopTheGalamsey Protest and the #ReoccupyJulorbiHouse Demonstration. The police have stated that he is being held for alleged unlawful actions, including inciting public disorder and leading the blockade of major roads, which caused significant disruption to commuters and daily activities in the city.
