The Kwahuhene's office disputes claims of his removal. In response to a circulating video and recent media reports, the Kwahuhene's office issued a statement on October 19th, 2024, refuting claims of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II's removal as paramount chief.
The statement clarifies that the video depicting a destoolment ceremony is entirely fabricated and violates both legal procedures and Kwahu traditions. It emphasizes that no official charges have been brought against the Kwahuhene that would warrant his removal, nor has any misconduct been proven related to his previous role as Chair of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).
Previously, on October 11th, 2024, Daasebre Agyapong II resigned as ADB Board Chairman following a directive from the Bank of Ghana (BoG). This directive stemmed from a client's petition to the President regarding an outstanding debt owed by the then-Chairman. The BoG expressed concerns that the Kwahumanhene's continued role could damage the bank's image.
The Kwahuhene's office contests the lack of due process in the BoG's decision, highlighting the absence of any opportunity to address the allegations before the resignation request. They maintain his decision to step down was temporary, aimed at facilitating a proper resolution.
The statement concludes by expressing confusion over the fabricated video circulating despite the lack of evidence against the Kwahuhene.
