East Legon Incident: Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife released on ¢50,000 bail each.

The High Court in Accra has granted bail to Salifu and Mouha Amoako, the parents of Elrad Amoako, whose actions caused a crash that claimed two lives in East Legon, Greater Accra Region.

The couple, arrested on Tuesday, October 15, faces charges for allowing an unlicensed individual to operate a vehicle. A third defendant, Linda Bempah, a sales assistant at Lilo Stitches, was also granted bail.

During the court hearing on Wednesday, October 16, the prosecution revealed that the parents admitted to permitting their son, Elrad, to drive their car to the gym and other places. It was further disclosed that the keys to the Jaguar, owned by Mouha Amoako, were handed to Elrad by Linda Bempah, complicating the case.

The defense attorneys for the accused requested bail, highlighting their clients' stable living conditions, steady employment, and strong community ties.

They argued that the accused posed no threat of reoffending or interfering with the investigation, asserting that their intentions were not to commit further offenses while on bail.

Although the prosecution did not contest the bail request, it advocated for strict bail conditions, emphasizing the gravity of the charges.

After considering arguments from both sides, the judge set bail at ¢50,000 for each accused. In granting bail, the court emphasized the necessity of keeping the accused available for trial.
