The man, identified as Charles, reportedly pleaded with his wife not to leave him after they had nine children together. However, she allegedly refused to heed his pleas, leading him to consume insecticide. He then went to his in-laws' home, where he died.
This tragic event occurred in the early hours of Monday, October 7, 2024, in the Jeddo Community of Okpe Local Government Area, Delta State. According to sources, Charles, a member of the local vigilante group, had a heated argument with his wife before the incident.
During the dispute, he expressed deep distress and begged her not to leave, but his emotional appeals went unanswered, contributing to his subsequent actions.
After drinking the insecticide at his home, Charles made his way to Ugbokodo, where he ultimately passed away. Although the specific details of their disagreement remain unclear, family members believe it significantly impacted his mental state. Authorities reportedly found empty insecticide bottles in his pockets, but no suicide note was left behind.
As of now, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State, SP Bright Edafe, has not commented on the situation, as attempts to reach him went unanswered.
