Six people tragically lost their lives in an accident near Atwedie on the Accra-Kumasi highway on Friday, October 11, 2024.
The incident involved a sprinter bus, registered AS 6313-16, traveling from Togo to Kumasi, which collided with a VIP bus, registered AC 1550-17, coming from Tamale to Accra. One passenger on the VIP bus and five passengers on the sprinter bus were killed instantly.
Reports indicate that the sprinter bus driver was attempting an improper overtaking maneuver, which caused the collision.
Those injured were quickly taken to the Konongo Government Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were transported to the Yawkwei mortuary for preservation.
John Boakye, an Assistant Officer at the Asante Akyem Fire Station, confirmed the incident to Adom News, noting that they had addressed any hazards that could lead to a fire outbreak.
He urged drivers to reduce their speed and exercise caution to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
