The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) became the first institution from Greater Accra to win the Graphic Business Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC) Version 6.0, scoring 86.8 points. They outperformed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), which finished second with 73.5 points, and defending champions University of Education, Winneba (UEW), who came third with 72.5 points.
The intense final, held at the GNAT Hall in Accra, saw students, sponsors, and dignitaries witness UGBS maintain dominance throughout the competition. UGBS took an early lead in the first round, the theory section, scoring 13 points, while KNUST earned 7 and UEW 5. Led by Peter Emeka Ike, alongside Edwin Entsiey, Jonathan Nii Nai Sowah, and Prince Ascod Bordoh, the UGBS team remained composed and surged ahead in the third and fourth rounds to secure victory in the sixth edition of the challenge.
Even KNUST’s strong performance in the fifth round, the riddles segment, couldn’t stop UGBS from claiming their first title. For their efforts, each UGBS student received a GHC20,000 insurance cover, HP laptops, sponsor souvenirs, gold medals, and a large trophy.
Additional honors saw UGBS awarded a trophy as South East Zonal champions, while KNUST and UEW received trophies as middle zone and South West zone champions, respectively. Further rewards included fuel coupons from Goil Ghana, with UGBS receiving GHC 2500, KNUST GHC 1500, and UEW GHC 1000.
As tensions ran high among the three schools’ supporters, UEW faltered in the first two rounds, and KNUST struggled early on. UGBS capitalized on these opportunities, taking control of the competition. Though KNUST made a late push in the fourth and fifth rounds, UGBS sealed their victory when Peter Emeka Ike answered the sixth riddle, sparking celebrations among their supporters before the final scores were announced.
Speaking on the event’s theme, "Promoting a Holistic Business Mindset for Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Financial Independence," Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group, Ato Afful, emphasized the importance of the challenge in developing contestants’ potential to address real-world challenges through innovation and entrepreneurship. He encouraged participants to form partnerships that could foster new business ideas for societal benefit.
Mr. Afful also expressed gratitude to quizmaster Alhassan Trawule, the technical team, and sponsors, urging continued support for future editions of the challenge.
