Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched the “Citizen App,” a personalized platform aimed at enhancing access to a variety of government services for all Ghanaians while providing real-time information to users.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted that the app will promote the adoption of technology among citizens by eliminating data duplication.
With this interoperability, you only need to submit your data once. After that, it can be accessed by the GRA, the Drivers Vehicle and Licenses Authority, insurers, and Business Registrations, among others. What Ghana has achieved, many advanced countries have yet to do. We are heading in a direction with numerous opportunities.
he stated.
He also noted that streamlining data management will lower costs and improve efficiency within the public sector.
Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam emphasized the app's role in promoting transparency in revenue collection, stating,
With the Citizen App, all government transactions will be fully traceable and accountable. This digital platform will enable us to track payments, services, and interactions in real-time, significantly reducing the risk of financial mismanagement and corruption.
Julie Essiam, Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, praised the app's potential, mentioning that Ghana is the first African nation to launch such an initiative, saying:
Ghana is the only country in Africa that has introduced this app. We are now on par with developed markets like Estonia, the US, and Dubai.
A key feature of the Citizen App is its Data Interoperability System, which allows different applications, platforms, and systems to exchange and interpret data seamlessly, regardless of the underlying technologies. This system enables meaningful data exchange and collaboration across sectors, effectively breaking down barriers between previously isolated data systems for improved efficiency.
