WAEC Releases 2024 BECE Provisional Results for School and Private Candidates
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for candidates who sat for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both school and private candidates.
In a statement issued on October 19, WAEC confirmed that the results for school candidates will be sent to their respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education.
WAEC also revealed that malpractices were detected during the examination process. Following investigations, the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee, during its 35th meeting on October 16, 2024, approved the cancellation of subject results for 377 school candidates and 3 private candidates. These candidates were found guilty of bringing unauthorized materials into the exam hall or colluding with others.
Additionally, the entire results of 41 school candidates and 1 private candidate were cancelled. The results of 33 school candidates and 3 private candidates have been withheld pending further investigations into irregularities. WAEC also reported that some subject results from 149 schools have been withheld due to malpractices. These results may be either cancelled or released based on the outcome of the investigations.
Overall, a total of 569,236 candidates registered for the school examination, comprising 282,703 males and 286,533 females from 19,505 schools. This includes 59 candidates with visual impairments, 263 with hearing impairments, and 161 with other special needs.
