A tragic stabbing spree unfolded at the Wuxi Yixing Arts and Crafts Vocational and Technical College in Jiangsu province, eastern China, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals and injuries to 17 others.
The attacker, a 21-year-old former student, was detained by police at approximately 6:30 PM local time (10:30 GMT) on Saturday. According to authorities, the man confessed to the crime, citing frustration over failing to obtain his diploma in 2024 due to poor exam results and dissatisfaction with his internship pay.
An investigation is ongoing as officials work to manage the aftermath of the incident.
This attack follows another recent act of public violence in China. On Monday, a 62-year-old driver, reportedly upset over a divorce settlement, rammed his car into a crowd outside a sports center in Zhuhai, killing 35 and injuring 43. These incidents have sparked discussions online about the rising trend of individuals taking out personal grievances on society through violent means.
