Election time in Ghana is always lively, with streets filled with party supporters waving flags and chanting slogans. But for Ama, what started as a joyful moment ended in frustration when she became a victim of phone snatching during the celebrations.
Ama parked by the roadside, waving her party’s flag and recording the excitement on her phone. “I was so happy; it felt like a victory celebration, shouting “Ɛyɛ Zu!, Ɛyɛ Zu!!”
she said.
But her joy didn’t last long. Suddenly, a man rushed to her car, snatched her phone through the window, and disappeared into the crowd before she could react.
The stolen phone contained both personal and work data, making the loss even worse. Ama’s story highlights a growing issue: street crimes like phone snatching are becoming common during political gatherings, where the chaos and distraction provide cover for opportunists.
Despite the incident, Ama remains loyal to her party but warns others to stay vigilant. “Keep your valuables safe and don’t let your guard down,” she advised.
As Ghana gears up for elections, let’s celebrate safely and protect ourselves in the spirit of democracy.
